12 year old Rothesay boy, Calum Speirs lost his
fight for life little more than a year after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. Brave Calum, a first
year pupil at Rothesay Academy, died peacefully at
home in Mountstuart Road on Friday 16th February
2007. The funeral service, much of it arranged by
Calum himself, was held at the former High Kirk on
Wednesday 21st February 2007.
Calum was diagnosed with an inoperable brain
tumour only a few days after the first symptoms were noticed last January- but he’s left his family
with a host of happy memories from the 13 months
since then. In the 13 months, Calum was an
inspiration to all who knew and met him. Calum
always laughed and smiled, and his priority was
always to think of others.
Calum and his family had decided that they would like
to keep helping others by having a Holiday Cabin in
Calum’s name to allow other families who are dealing
with a child with cancer to have a wonderful holiday
on the Isle of Bute. Details of the proposed Cabin can
be found on the Calums Cabin website at www.calumscabin.com .

Diamond Water are proud to be sponsers of The Call Centre Challenge Cup in aid of Calum's Cabin.
As we are now entering a time of giving and sharing and with all the negativity of the credit crunch Diamond Water & One Recruitment Associates thought it would be good time to launch the following and hopefully bring all of the Call/Contact centres together and put it to a good cause:-
One Recruitment Associates & Diamond Water are inviting call and contact centres to enter the very first Call Centre Challenge Cup, a 5 aside football tournament in aide of Calum’s Cabin – where we aim to invite 30 different Call Centres from the central belt of Scotland and give them the opportunity to be the very best in the industry!
So far companies that have agreed are Eon, Kwik-Fit Financial Services, HSBC, Virgin Media, beCogent, NFU Mutual, Barclays, The Daily Record, Student loans Company, Bip Solutions, Teletech, and with many more considering.
Some of the comments received so far include:
Eon….take this kind of opportunity very seriously and will win….
HSBC….We are not that competitive but we will win….
Daily Record… we have our own team / shirts and bus…the trophy is ours….
So the competition has already started!
On a serious note, we are currently looking for each team, if possible, to gain donations from their colleagues and put forward this donation to Calum’s Cabin directly or via One Recruitment Associates in order to gain access to the tournament.
The Tournament itself will take place on 21st February 2009 (10.30am – 3pm) where there will be 25 – 30 different Call / Contact Centres competing for the coveted Challenge Cup!
We will be confirming more details over the next few weeks in the run up to the competition.
The Call Centre Challenge Cup will take place on 21st February 2009 at the "Champions League Football centre" at 5 Palacecraig Street in Coatbridge.
